Abstract: Polarization-discriminated spectra of a fiber-microsphere system were acquired. The authors have succeeded in developing a single-mode tapered fiber capable of maintaining the polarization of the probe beam. The spectra acquired from this system discriminated between transverse electric and transverse magnetic modes.
