Specifically, I analyzed two values that are in opposition to "liberal" value: “authoritarian attitudes” and "consciousness of accepting inequality". Firstly, I examined how these attitudes have changed from 1995 to 2015 by birth cohort. The authoritarian attitudes increased significantly from 1995 to 2005, and then remained high from 2005 to 2015 and is particularly strong among younger generations. On the other hand, although the "consciousness of accepting inequality" has not changed significantly, the "consciousness of accepting inequality" is stronger among the younger generation and had increased among the cohorts born in the 1950s and 1960s between 1995 and 2005. Secondly, I examined how the effects of university education on these attitudes changed from 1995 to 2015. The results showed that there was a significant difference between 1995 and 2015, suggesting that university education lost its effect of weakening authoritarian attitudes. Finally, I examined the changing impact of class of origin on authoritarian attitudes. In 1995, the negative effect of class of origin on authoritarian attitudes was reduced by university education. This implies that university education fostered non-authoritarian attitudes regardless of class of origin. However, in 2015, these effects had been lost. Bulletin of Faculty of Education, Hokkaido University138181194https://eprints.lib.hokudai.ac.jp/dspace/bitstream/2115/82173/3/13-1882-1669-138.pdfapplication/pdf2.31 MB2021-06-25
