The "Japan's Most Beautiful Villages" Association joined the "World's Most Beautiful Villages" Association in 2010. The defining characteristic of this practice is that it has transcended differences in national geographical and cultural features and has been sustained by shared purposes and approaches to building the Most Beautiful Villages.
It has been mostly discussed from the aspects of tourism and rural development strategies, and few have been approached from the perspective of ideology and the history of ideas.
A "beautiful village" is a where people and communities confirm their identity, but at the same time it is constantly being re-created and changed by the workings of the village. It is therefore difficult to define what is beauty of the villages. However, by observing the embodiment, we can see that the 'beautiful village' as an art form transmits an image of beauty to the people, who interpret this image in their daily lives and weave it into their own stories. Most Beautiful Villages presents the principles and methods that support these practices.2012-10jpnconference paperAMhttp://hdl.handle.net/2115/87591日本造園学会北海道支部大会24札幌市JPN日本造園学会北海道支部札幌市立大学サテライトキャンパス、他2012年10月6日(土)~7日(日)https://eprints.lib.hokudai.ac.jp/dspace/bitstream/2115/87591/1/Bi_no_gainen_2012.pdfapplication/pdf148.05 KB2012-10
