It is considered that they depend upon the brittle points of asphalt and asphaltic mixtures, which are controlled by ambient temperature, by speed of vehicle, and by property of asphalt. Thus, it is very important that appropriate asphalt be selected to meet the circumstances and traffic conditions involved. Therefore, it is desirable to find a simple relation between the brittle points of asphalt and asphaltic mixtures and to elucidate the relationship between them and the brittle point of asphaltic pavements. This paper deals with the brittle points and their application to asphalts and asphaltic mixtures which transform from flow zones to brittle zones. We conducted a variety of tests in order to obtain various points of asphalts and asphaltic mixtures at low temperatures.
