Each class has aparticular syntactic function.Finite verbsappear aspredicates ofmain clauses, participles mainly appear aspredicates of nominal and adjectivalclauses, andconverbs appear aspredicates of adverbial clauses. However, this classification may be unsuitable since some participles also appear aspredicates ofadverbial clauses. This function seems to be similar to that of adjectives, which can modify both nouns and verbs. However, participles are differentfrom adjectives. When a participleis used asthe predicate of an adverbial clause, italways appearswith some enclitical particles, which do not appear with adjectives that modify verbs. Therefore, we cannot define participles as inflectional V→A transposition,as suggested by Haspelmath and Sims (2010).北海道大学大学院文学研究科Departmental Bulletin Paperapplication/pdfhttp://hdl.handle.net/2115/52597https://eprints.lib.hokudai.ac.jp/dspace/bitstream/2115/52597/1/03_YAMAKOSHI.pdf2185-7121AA12516968北方言語研究325402013-03-25jpnpublisher
