Title: 「の」と「こと」をめぐって : 音声学的分析からの考察
Authors:
; In Japanese, the use of no and koto is complicated. It has been thought that these two forms are pseudo-nouns which lack substantial meaning. But if we consider them from a phonetic point of view, it is clear that koto is a noun while no is a suffix which nominalizes a clause. A clause which precedes koto has a noun modifying function while a clause to which no is attached lacks such a function. To modify a noun implicates that there are other possible classes of the noun. This leads to the hypothesis that the koto construction may select from a range of variation, while the no construction intrinsically focusses on "uniqueness". This study examines the validity of the hypothesis in comparison to previous syntactic and semantic analyses of no and koto. It is found that in some cases this hyphothesis can clarify questions which previous studies did not explain.2006-11-30T15:00:00Z山下, 好孝日本語教育において「の」と「こと」の使い分けがよく問題とされる。

Title: 語彙教育の単位としてのコロケーション
Authors: バックハウス, アンソニー・E
Abstract: This paper argues for the importance of collocations, as opposed to single words, as basic units in L2 vocabulary acquisition. Collocations are defined here as commonly occurring combinations of two or more lexical words in a syntactic construction: examples are ame ga yamu, ofuro ni hairu, karada ga ookii, atsui oyu, kawatta namae, nabe no soko, hayaku neru, kirei ni arau, hijooni muzukashii. Collocations are seen as providing models of natural language use which contribute to both understanding and production; they highlight interesting points of difference as well as similarity between languages; and since they involve syntactic constructions, they also reinforce the acquisition of grammar. The importance of collocations in acquisition is discussed with reference to four semantic types of Japanese words: verbs which are used in highly general meanings such as kakeru (as in bureeki o kakeru); mimetic adverbs like tekuteku whose meanings are, by contrast, very specific; nouns like terebi, whose meanings are arguably identical with L1 items; and cases like tsumetai and samui, where two or more L2 items cover the semantic range of a single item in L1 (as with Eng cold). In the first two cases, the need to acquire collocations like enjin o kakeru and tekuteku aruku is self-evident, but even with semantically unremarkable items like terebi the control of collocations such as terebi o tsukeru is necessary if the word is to be used naturally in sentences. With tsumetai and samui, collocations like samui hi and tsumetai mizu serve to reinforce the basic semantic distinction between these two words; even when this distinction is grasped, however, borderline cases for learners still arise, and further collocations such as kaze ga tsumetai, ashi ga tsumetai ('feet feel cold'), ashi ga samui ('legs feel cold') provide models of natural use in these areas. As Lewis and others have stressed, control of vocabulary requires mastery of the behaviour of words in combination as well as of their individual meanings, and increased focus on collocations appears to offer great potential benefits for vocabulary acquisition. This needs to be supported by further studies of collocation patterns and corpus frequency in Japanese linguistics, and by the incorporation of more detailed collocational information in Japanese learner dictionaries.2006-11-30T15:00:00Zバックハウス, アンソニー・EThis paper argues for the importance of collocations, as opposed to single words, as basic units in L2 vocabulary acquisition. ; The author of this paper faced an issue which arose in his class and he wanted to solve it. The main issue was that Japanese students taking a Japanese teacher training programme at university did not participate in class very positively. Clearly it is difficult to change such a situation dramatically and quickly within a short period of time. Therefore as a first step, in order to clearly identify the issues in the classroom, exploratory Action Research (AR) was introduced to the class. Since AR clarifies the issues, the AR conductor is able to plan the next step to solve them. This paper mainly reports on the process of the AR and how the conductor himself changed through it. Concrete solutions for the issues in this context are also suggested. Showing such a practical case could be an example in how to become an independent teacher.2006-11-30T15:00:00Z山田, 智久本稿執筆者は、日本語教員養成過程を受講する学生の自発的な発話が少ないことに関して日々疑問を抱いていた。

; Reading activities for beginners have generally been taught through application exercises of grammar. These sort of activities alone are not sufficient especially for learners in Japan because the activities are not authentic nor suitable for actual reading in their daily life. We therefore have been trying to develop reading activities with materials useful for students' daily life. The plan is based on data drawn from needs analyses, which were conducted on students attending reading classes in the General and Intensive Japanese Courses at the International Student Center, Hokkaido University. Our goal is to include in our reading classes more activities based on the students' needs. We also stress the need for reading activities which encourage students to use their background knowledge and guessing abilities to read texts containing unfamiliar vocabulary or sentence patterns. Such activities, we believe, can better enable students to undertake independent study outside class.2006-11-30T15:00:00Z市川, 明美梅田, 悦雄富田, 麻知子山田, 智久初級の学習者を対象とした読解授業は文型学習の仕上げと位置づけられることが多い。

Authors:
; This paper reports on classroom activities in a poster presentation class promoting active and comprehensive use of a variety of language knowledge and skills. In preparing the presentation, various activities are conducted in this class, such as gathering information on presentation topics, organizing content and structure, writing the speech manuscript, making the poster, and practicing speeches and question-and-answer sessions. In addition, the use of Japanese word processors is taught for writing the manuscript and preparing the poster. A variety of instruction styles are used depending on content and activities, such as lectures, seminars including interaction between the teacher and students, and individual instruction. The results of a student questionnaire show that they enjoyed the poster presentation session and regarded it as good practice in Japanese. However, their comments reveal that their presentations sometimes interrupted each other because the all students performed them at the same time in a limited space. Compared with their earlier oral presentations, the poster presentation prompted the learners to give their presentations with awareness of the audience, and to more actively interact with them. Using the lobby in the University for the presentation enabled the learners to gain wider audience participation, and provided them with an opportunity for authentic interaction with a variety of listeners.2006-11-30T15:00:00Z副田, 恵理子平塚, 真理本稿では、様々な言語知識や技能を総合的に、かつ主体的に運用する活動を取り入れた『ポスター発表クラス』の授業内容を報告する。

; This paper investigates, through a comparison with textbooks edited by the South Manchurian Society of Education (SMSE), the origin and characteristics of the "Nippongo Kaiwa Tokuhon (Reader for Japanese Conversation)" edited by the Japanese Military Placation Squad. Through this comparison, it was found that this textbook was edited according to the rules for the use of SMSE kana; the existence of a Chinese translation, and the structure as well as the usage of symbols show that "Sokusei Nippongo Tokuhon (Short-Course Reader in Japanese)", the first book, is thought to be the origin based upon "Nippongo Kaiwa Tokuhon" among the textbooks edited by SMSE. Furthermore, this comparison found the following three characteristics of "Nippongo Kaiwa Tokuhon": 1) it was a short-course textbook suitable for placation activities, especially those held with a military unit. 2) it was "ironic" that it borrowed its framework from textbooks of Chinese (an enemy at that time). 3) it served as a "visual propaganda" tool afterwards, because the above two points were contradictory as a language-textbook. Finally, as future research issues, re-consideration of the editorial policy of Placation Squad textbooks, the influence of "Sokusei Nippongo Tokuhon" on "Nippongo Kaiwa Tokuhon", and a comparison with other textbooks are needed2006-11-30T15:00:00Z中村, 重穂小論は、『日本語會話讀本』(以下『讀本』)と南満洲教育会教科書編輯部編纂教科書との比較を通して、その参照元となった教科書を推定し、併せて『讀本』の性格を再考しようとしたものである。

; This paper examines the logical structure of the toritate particles Sae and Koso in complex sentences from a syntactic point of view. Sae and Koso have the common syntactic feature that they appear in the subordinate clause of a complex sentence. It has long been argued whether the scope of Sae and Koso includes the main clause or not (Numata 1989, Noda 1995, Noguchi and Harada 1996, Mogi 2006). The way to answer this question is to analyze co-occurrence relations between dependent and main clauses found with Sae and Koso, based on the logical structure. The present analysis demonstrates that the speaker's presupposition of Sae and Koso influences the content of the main clause. Thus, the scope of these particles includes the main clause.2006-11-30T15:00:00Z西, 真理子本稿は、日本語のとりたて詞「さえ」と「こそ」について統語的観点から考察したものである。

Authors:
; In Japanese, there are phrasal particles composed of case particles and verbs, like ~ni kanshite, ~ni taishite, ~o tsuujite, ~o megutte etc. Most of them have both a te-form such as ~ni kanshite and a stem-form such as ~ni kanshi. Concerning the two forms, stylistic differences have conventionally been the only issue discussed. This paper, however, points out other differences, as follows: 1) da / dearu cannot be attached to the stem-form of these phrases: 2) some particles (no, toritate-particles wa, mo, koso, sae, shika etc., conditional particle nara, and case particle yori) cannot be attached to the stem-form. However, not all te-forms of these phrases are free from these restrictions. This paper examines the te-forms of each phrase from this respect and discusses the restrictions when apply.2006-11-30T15:00:00Z池上, 素子「~に関して、~に対して、~を通じて」のような、格助詞に動詞がついて、意味・機能上ひとまとまりになっている表現(本稿では助詞相当句と呼ぶ)には、「~に関して」のようなテ形と、「~に関し」のような連用中止形の両方を備えているものが多い。

This paper examines the te-forms of each phrase from this respect and discusses the restrictions when apply.
