Title: 2011ホリデーイン日高実施報告 : 多文化交流行事への道
Authors:
; Holiday in Hidaka is a cultural-exchange program, co-organized by International Student Center, Office of International Affairs, Hokkaido University and National Hidaka Youth Outdoor Learning Center. The program has been a support program for international students, designed to offer them the opportunity to enjoy a trip and learn about Japanese culture. International students have been considered to have difficulties with going on trips for financial reasons and language barriers. However, there has been a change in the situations of international students: English sings for international travelers are now seen around Sapporo, and there are various exchange events for international students offered by other organizations. This year, therefore, the organizer decided to change the character of the program from the event to support international student life to a program for cross-cultural understanding, focusing more on interaction between participants. This is a work in progress report of our effort to develop an international exchange program for multi-cultural education.2011-11-30T15:00:00Z髙橋, 彩青木, 麻衣子鄭, 惠先「ホリデーイン日高」は毎年留学生センターと国立日高青少年自然の家が共催で行う国際交流行事である。

Title: 2011年度日本語イブニング・コース中間報告
Authors:
; Hokkaido University Nihongo Evening Course was designed for all the international students and researchers and their families who want to learn Japanese. This course began last year. It is characterized by its flexibility of the schedule and course design. There is no placement test, no fixed textbook, nor homeworks. Its instructors are not professionals, but volunteers. The Evening Course consists of "Pre-class," "Interview Sessions," and "Individual Class." All students participate in the "Pre-class" to begin with. Afterwards, they can choose an "Individual Class," based on their needs or interests. This year we have more variety of the "Individual Class" than last year. We believe this course's system can serve as a model for other voluntary based Japanese language courses. We try to find the way of support for students who are learning Japanese.2011-11-30T15:00:00Z山下, 好孝本稿は、2011年度秋学期期間(2011年10月-2012年2月)に北海道大学国際本部留学生センターにおいて実施されている「日本語イブニング・コース」の活動内容と実績についての中間報告である(10月・11月分)。

Authors:
; The aim of this paper is to present the institutional framework, and operational forms of the FP (Foundation Program) whose primary function is to assist in the pre-university education for international students who have not received the Senior Secondary Certificate of Education in Australia. It will also include an analysis of related policies and reports as well as interviews with officers who have significant experience with the FPs. The genesis of the program began in the middle of the nineteen eighties when the government set the goal to open universities for privately funded international students. Since then the number of international students has rapidly increased, and the international education sector has grown to be the third export services in Australia. Furthermore, FP's have contributed to not only recruit top students from abroad, but have also taken the responsibility to provide them with opportunities and extra time in order for them to adequately adjust to the Australian higher educational system (tertiary) - as well as academics in the offical (English) language. Qualitative data from interviews at Taylor's College (which is the FP for the University of Sydney),the UNSW Foundation Studies, and the RMIT lnternational College Foundation Studies have given pertinent information about the importance of the cooperation between the FP providers and the universities in terms of marketing and monitoring each student's academic endeavors with the goal being to ensure the success of each Foundation Program.2011-11-30T15:00:00Z青木, 麻衣子内田, 治子本稿は、オーストラリアにおける留学生のための学部予備教育課程であるファウンデーション・プログラム(Foundation Program : FP)の制度的枠組みと具体的な運営形態とを、政策文書の分析および聞き取り調査から明らかにし、その意義を考察するものである。

Authors:
; This study analyzes cases of stylistic mixture of abrupt style (da/dearu) sentences into formal style (desu/masu) sentences and classifies them structurally and functionally. In addition, the author refers to pedagogical treatments of these stylistic mixtures. Based on the analysis, it was found that the mixture of abrupt style sentences is classified into thirteen types of structures/functions. Furthermore, it was found that the mixture of abrupt style sentences occurs when the text-producer constructs a sentence expressing each stage of his/her thought in a stream from a question to an answer by way of frame-making thought. Finally, the author indicates a pedagogical anxiety that teaching of the stylistic mixture would be culturally assimilative (ethnocentric) from the viewpoint of historical study on Japanese language teaching.2011-11-30T15:00:00Z中村, 重穂小論は、文体の混用のうち、「です・ます」体が基調の文章に「だ・である」体が混用される事例を取り上げ、その構造的・機能的分類と出現形態を考察した上で、指導上の対応に言及したものである。

Authors:
; This study examined which language reference tools beginning-level Japanese learners use to understand the meanings of unknown words in texts they read in their daily lives, and what problems occur when they use them. Nine Japanese learners were given tasks requiring the understanding of unknown words. In the process of completing the tasks, they could freely use any language reference tools. The progress of the tasks and follow-up interviews were video recorded, and the data were analyzed focusing on the subjects use of translation tools (translation websites and translation functions attached to Web mails and Web browsers). The results show that when the learners read documents on the PC screen half of them used mainly translation tools. It appears that translation tools are less troublesome than typing in individual words into a dictionary. Also, they enable the learner to grasp the appropriate meaning more smoothly because he/she only has to move the pointer to those parts of the text where the meaning is unknown, or to copy and paste texts on the screen to get translated texts. However, some problems of translation tools were also revealed: texts are not accurately translated and parts omitted in the original Japanese text are not properly complemented in the English version. Participants in the research could not solve these problems using their Japanese knowledge appropriately.2011-11-30T15:00:00Z副田, 恵理子平塚, 真理本研究は、日本に住む初級学習者が日常生活場面で未知語に遭遇した際、その意味理解のためにどのような物的リソースを用い、その使用過程の中で何が問題となるのかを明らかにした。
