Abstract: 乾燥地域における静穏な気象状況のもとで発達する大気境界層と積雲および積雲に伴うダスト輸送について, 非静力学モデルを用いたモデル化と数値シミュレーションによる解析結果について述べる. 砂漠やステップといった乾燥・半乾燥地域での境界層は, 顕著な日変化を示し,かつその厚さは時には地上高4kmにまで達する. このような特異な条件の下で, 乾燥地であっても積雲は発生し, 鉛直運動が活発となり, 突発的に生じる強風により地上のダストが巻き上げられ, 境界層内で混合され, 強い上昇流によって自由対流圏へと輸送される. また, 積雲とダスト輸送を数値モデルで表現するためには, 100mの桁の空間解像度が必要であると言える.
This paper describes the modeling and numerical simulations of cumulus clouds and dust transport with a nonhydrostatic cloud model. The numerical simulations are performed for the diurnal variation of boundary layer and cumulus convection under fair-weather conditions over arid regions. The boundary layer over arid and semiarid regions indicates a significant diurnal variability and the significant vertical development above the 4-km height. Under such unique conditions, cumulus clouds develop even over arid regions, producing strong vertical motion and thus gusty winds at the surface, which leads to the emission of surface dust, mixing of dust in the boundary layer, and the transport into the free troposphere. The numerical experiments that examine the sensitivity to grid resolution are also performed. From these sensitivity experiments, it is shown that the horizontal grid resolution on the order of 100 m is required to adequately represent cumulus convection and dust transport in meteorological models.
