Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to illustrate how trade with large retailers affects organic vegetable farms. The results are as follows: 1)Organic vegetable farms that do business with large retailers tend to find it necessary to grow their crop(s) continuously year around. 2) Cooperative marketing associations that trade with large retailers are able to avoid continuous cropping by dividing crop production amongst its members. Therefore, to maintain a sustainable cropping system, it is important for organic produce growers to set up cooperative marketing associations in order to divide up crop production
