Abstract: Forests are valuable resources and essential for both ecosystem and human life. The breeding and genetic resource conservation of forest trees are two important means to secure the sustainability and profitability of forestry and forest management. In this presentation, the author presents the current status of the breeding and genetic resource conservation in Japan, emphasizing some unique approaches in Japan to realize conservation and use of the forest tree genetic resources.
