Abstract

Plants produce and emit isoprene and monoterpenes. Their role in the atmosphere, metabolic pathway inside the leaves and emission mechanisms on the leaves are described. Quercus spp. is the most common genus in Japan and our study has shown that they are categorized into three groups, i.e. isoprene emitting species, monoterpene emitting species and non-emitting species.
