Abstract
The Asian continent is the major source region of terrigenous organic matter transported to the northwestern Pacific. However, biomarker proxies, such as molecular composition and compound-specific carbon isotopic ratios of leaf wax n-alkanes, do not have enough resolution for the recognition of their source vegetation in mid-high latitudes. Hence, development of a novel biomarker proxy is required to reveal their detailed source area and transport pathways. Our recent studies show that the compound-specific hydrogen isotopic compositions (δD) of atmospheric n-alkanes could provide the key to better understanding the long-range transport in the East Asia-northwestern Pacific regions.
