Abstract

The aim of this paper is to report the service and performance of the Student Support Desk at the International Student Center (ISC), Hokkaido University. The ISC Student Support Desk, which was launched in November 2008, is a peer-support service for international students at the university. The students are able to ask anything about important procedures and their daily lives to their fellow students whenever the Desk is open. Although its main service is to deal with students enquiries, it also sometimes arranges events such as Book Exchange Week and Konnichiwa Week which is like a garage sale without money transaction. The Support Desk contributes not only to answering students' questions but also to encouraging students to come to the ISC. We hope that the report will be helpful reference to those who are considering or planning to organize peer support services at internationalizing universities.
