The purpose of this paper is to examine the life of the elderly from economic, living, and spiritual aspects in Kaixiangong Village and to clarify the nature of old-age family support in the eastern coastal villages. Due to their pensions, elderly people are independent, except in case of sickness and other emergencies. It is even likely that the elderly support their children economically and for their lifestyle, which is a voluntary choice by the elderly and leads to their mental comfort. Therefore, children are required to provide full-fledged care to the elderly only for a relatively short period, from the time they lose their ability to care for themselves to their death. However, when such full-fledged care is prolonged, external oldage support is required.
