Abstract

An Electron Microscopic Study of the Protoplasmic Droplet of Bull Spermatozoa The present investigation is an electron microscopic study of the protoplasmic droplet which is well known as one of immature types of bull spermatozoa. The semen was collected from 3 Holstein bulls with normal fertility by the artificial vagina method and from a slaughtered Holstein bull by puncture of the ampula ductus deferentis. Each sample was embedded in methacrylate and sectioned with an ultramicrotome for examination of the internal structures. The protoplasmic droplet is located between the sperm neck and the Jensen's ring. The structure of the protoplasmic droplet consisted, in general, of a double-layered cell membrane and a matrix of Golgi zone having a strong resemblance to that of general somatic cells. Golgi membrane, vacuole, granule and vesicle were also distinguishable.
