光合成においてヘムは，光化学系のシトクロムや活性酸素消去系のカタラーゼなどのヘムタンパク質の補欠分子族として，酸化還元や電子伝達に機能している．本章では植物組織からのヘムの抽出・分析方法について紹介する．
Heme is prosthetic group of hemoproteins, which are responsible for various biological processes including reduction and oxygenation, oxygen metabolism, oxygen transfer, electron transfer and secondary metabolism. In this chapter, we introduce analytical methods of heme in photosynthetic organisms. Variety of hemes, biosynthesis, principle of heme analysis, and several heme assays have been described.
