光合成生物にとってカロテノイドの存在は必須であり，多種多様なカロテノイドがある．光合成生物の分類群ごとに特有なカロテノイドもある．本章ではカロテノイドの抽出，精製，同定などの方法を解説する．
Presence of carotenoids in phototrophic organisms is essential for light-harvesting and photoprotection, and around 150 kinds of carotenoids are found in these. Some specific carotenoids are only found in specific groups. In this chapter, the methods for extraction, analysis, purification and identification are explained.
