Abstract

Japanese species of the barklouse subfamily Amphigerontiinae (Psocidae) were systematically revised. Seven species belonging to fi ve genera we re recogni zed, includ ing the following new taxa: Glossoblaste n. ge n. , Glossoblasfe amamiensis n. sp., and Neopsocopsis sakishimensis n. sp. The genus MelOgeroniia Li, 2002 was recogn ized as a new junior synonym of AllomaloblaSle Endang, Thol11ton & New, 2002, and the genus Penlablaste Li , 2002 was recognized as a new junior synonym of Neopsocopsis Badonnel. 1936. Anomaloblasle Iribulosa (Li, 2002) n. comb., Neopsocopsis longiplera Vis hnyakova, 1986, and Amphigeronlia conramillota (S tephens, 1836) were newly recorded from Japan. The female of An. tribulosa was recorded for the first time and its genitali c strllcnlres were described. The species previously recorded from Japan as Blasle obtlfsa or Neoblaste cubitalis was ident ified as Neoblasle papi/loslIs Thornton, 1960. Male and female terminal structures of all species were illustrated. except for G. amamiensis known on.ly from a male. Amphi geronriinae have been subdi vided into four tribes, and the tribal system was tentatively confinlled by recent molecular anlysis. However. morphology of some Japanese species contradicted the tribal subd ivisions and thus the system was not employed in this revision.
