本研究の目的は、初級日本語学習者が漢字熟語を漢字辞書で検索する際に困難となる点を明らかにすることである。調査では、初級学習者に未習漢字熟語を含む短文中の漢字語彙を漢英辞書を使用して検索する課題を課し、学習者の漢字検索過程をビデオカメラで記録した。また、そのビデオを見せながら事後インタビューを行い、ピデオカメラとテープレコーダーで記録し、資料とした。その結果、熟語検索においては接辞の認識、文脈との照合、辞書の熟語の記載法、一字単位のまとまりの認識が問題となることが明らかになった。また、単語検索においても、単漢字検索の困難点である字形と部首の認識の問題点が共通することが明らかになった。
The aim of this study is to investigate the difficulties in the use of kanji dictionaries by learners of Japanese at beginning level, focusing on the search process of kanji-compounds. Informants were given the task of looking up kanji-compounds in short sentences in kanji dictionaries. The search process and follow-up interviews were recorded with video cameras and taperecorders. The findings are that (1) recognition of affixes, checking word meaning with the context, the organization of kanji dictionaries, and the recognition of kanji units cause problems for beginning learners in looking up kanji-compounds; (2) recognition of kanji-patterns and radicals causes problems both in looking up single-kanji words and in looking up kanji-compounds.
