本稿では、レポート作成の予備教育としての作文教育に生かすことを目的として農学系論文コーパスを分析し、原因用法を中心に「ため」と「ために」の使用実態の相違を明らかにすることを試みた。その結果明らかになったことは以下の通りである。1）「ため」は主に原因・理由用法に、「ために」は主に目的用法に用いられる。2）「ため」は原因にも理由にも用いられるが、「ために」は原因に用いられることはあっても、ほとんど理由に用いられることはない。3）原因を表す「ために」にはいくつかの特徴が認められた。それは、（1）「ため」より連体修飾節内に収まるものが多い。（2）談話レベルにおいて「ために」が用いられやすい文脈がある、ということである。談話レベルにおいて用いられやすい文脈とは、a）ある現象を述べ、その原因を後から記述する文脈、b）ある現象を述べ、それがいくつかの原因の連鎖の結果起きたことであることを記述する文脈、c）対比・逆接の文脈、の三つである。これらa）～c）の特徴は、原因を表す「ため」では「ために」ほど顕著に現れず、また「ため」に独自の特徴も認められなかった。「ために」に上記の特徴が「ため」よりも顕著に現れた原因は、いずれも焦点化によって説明ができる。これらの知見を作文教育に生かせば、学習者の疑問に応え、より適切な文章の産出の一助となると思われる。
This article examines the uses of TAME and TAMENI through an analysis of a corpus of theses on agriculture. In this analysis, the following results were found: 1) TAME is mainly used for expressing causes or reasons. TAMENI is mostly used for expressing purposes. 2) While TAME is used for both causes and reasons, TAMENI is rarely used for reasons. 3) TAME expressing causes has no characteristic sentence or discourse usages. 4) TAMENI expressing causes has some characteristic usages. (1) TAMENI is more frequently used in relative clauses than TAME. (2) TAMENI is often used in certain discourse patterns. a) In the first pattern, some phenomenon is first described, and then the cause of that phenomenon is described. b) In the second pattern, some phenomenon is first described, and then it is described how more than one thing causes it. c) The third pattern is the description of a contrast or a concessive clause.
