Japanese passive voice has been studied based on the construction of its corresponding active voice sentence are denominated, such as Direct Passive, Indirect Passive, Intransitive Verb Passive and so on. This study highlights issues with this analysis and proposes“malefactive passive construction" in contrast to“benefactive -TE MORAU construction" without any consideration of corresponding active voice sentence patterns.
