小論は、明治期・清末の日本語教師・長谷川雄太郎の教科書『日語入門』を近世～近代日本語史の観点から分析・考察し、その特徴と教科書設計意図を明らかにすることを目的としたものである。幕末～明治期までに大きな変化のあった11の表現の『日語入門』に於ける出現状況を分析した結果、長谷川が日本語の変化に意を払いつつも実際の使用場面での汎用性を重視したことを明らかにした。同時に、「視点」という発想の欠如により移動動詞・授受表現・受身の配列や説明に問題のある点を含むことも指摘した。また、アスペクトに対する長谷川の重点的な説明の理由をなお残る疑問として提示し、さらなる研究の必要性を述べた。
This paper aims to examine the content and text-design of “NICHIGONYUMON (Introduction to Japanese: NN)” written by HASEGAWA Yutaro, a teacher of Japanese during the Late Qing Dynasty, from the viewpoint of the history of the Japanese language. The paper analyses eleven Japanese expressions in the textbook which had changed drastically between the late Tokugawa Shogunate and the Meiji era, and finds that Hasegawa chose expressions which had broad utility in real situations, with due attention to language change in Japanese. At the same time, it is shown that Hasegawa had no concept of “viewpoint”, especially with respect to movement verbs, giving and receiving expressions, and the passive, and consequently was unable to provide appropriate explanation and arrangement for these items. Finally, the paper discusses the unclarified issue of why Hasegawa gave detailed explanations only on Japanese aspects, and points out the necessity of further research on NN.
