Abstract

This is a report on exchange sessions between two universities in Japan: one is located in Miyagi, in Tohoku region and the other one in Nagasaki, in Kyushu region. Using a website tool, student participants exchanged information on the traditional events of their own regional areas in English. The findings of this practice can be summarized as the following four points: the advantage of using writing activities, the need for the detailed and thorough planning of the sessions, the significance of controlling the language used, and the effective use of internet tools. Internet technology has been advancing remarkably in recent years, but differentiating educational and meaningful interactive activities from purely entertaining ones should be considered.
