本稿で訳註を行った物語はアイヌ語で書かれた雑誌『アイヌ・モシリ』に掲載されているものである。語り手の木村ウサルシマ氏（?～1953?）は当時の樺太相浜に生まれた樺太アイヌであり、筆録者の山本多助氏（1904～1993）は釧路で生まれ育った北海道アイヌである。山本氏によるアイヌ語の筆録はアイヌ人によるアイヌ語の記録としてだけでなく、アイヌ語釧路方言話者が樺太方言を書きとったものとしても注目すべきものである。これまで山本氏のアイヌ語を検討したものは少ないが、山本氏の筆録資料はかなりの程度語り手のアイヌ語を反映した記述であるということができる。この物語の内容はいわゆる烏呑み爺譚であり、アイヌや日本の物語に広く見られるものである。原文はカタカナ表記のアイヌ語のみであるが、本稿ではそれと合わせてローマ字表記のアイヌ語、日本語訳を付している。 「樺太のお話（おならと宝物のお話）」 川上の者と川下の者がいた。ある日、川下の者が薪を取りにいき、スズメを捕まえて飲みこんだ。家に帰って「カニトント カニトント シペチャララ プユユップッ」というおならをした。すると宝物が出て家いっぱいになった。川下の者が成功したのを見て、川上の者が同じく薪採りに行った。大きな鳥を取って飲みこんだ。「クンクミ クンクミ チニトゥイムカラ ノイフンムカラ トンパラパラ プッ」とおならをすると、家中が糞だらけとなった。川下の者が見に行くと、川上の者が糞に埋もれていた。「スーマウマウ スーマウマウ アトゥイ ソー クルカ エラピス ラピス スーマウマウ スーマウマウ モシリ クルカ エラピス ラピス」と川下の者が祈ると、糞はなくなって川上の者は動くことができた。
This Sakhalin Ainu folk tale is extracted from Ainu-mosir, an Ainu language magazine published in the years 1957-1965, in which Tasuke Yamamoto was the main writer. During his stay in Sakhalin in February 1937 Tasuke Yamamoto (1904-1993), who was born in Harutori, Hokkaido, recorded this tale using the Japanese katakana script when it was recited by Usarusmah Kimura (?-1953? ), born in Aihama, Sakhalin. Yamamoto’s work deserves recognition as an effort to preserve Ainu culture by Ainu people themselves. Folk tales of this type are well known both among Ainu and in Japan (cf. Tori-nomi jī or The old man who swallowed birds). The Tale from Karafuto, which was never published as a complete translation into Japanese, is given here in its original katakana transcription and in the Roman alphabet transcription, and is accompanied by Japanese translation. Karafuto ubebekere (Opke newa ikoro upepekere) Tale from Karafuto (Tale of the breaking wind and the treasure) There were Pankankuh, the man living on the lower reaches of the river and Penkankuh, the man living on the upper reaches of the river. One day Pankankuh went into the mountain to cut wood. He killed a sparrow and swallowed it. He went back home, where he broke wind, making the sounds kanitonto kanitonto sipecarara puyuyuhpuh, and he dropped treasure. The room became filled with the treasure. Then, he invited Penkankuh and his wife to come to see the treasure. When Penkankuh heard that Pankankuh had become rich, he said: "This is what I wanted to do, abominable Pankankuh! You have forestalled me. Bad Pankankuh!" Saying these words he got angry, and only his wife went to Pankankuh's house to see the treasure. The next day, Penkankuh went into the mountain to cut wood and swallowed a large bird. Then, he broke wind, making the sounds: “Kunkumi kunkumi cinituy mukara noyhun mukara tonparara puh.” But he only dropped feces, and his house became filled with his feces. After it happened Pankankuh came to Penkankuh’s house and prayed: "Siimawmaw siimawmaw atuy soo kuruka erapisu rapisu." All the feces vanished.
