Abstract

The OECD and China have been enhancing mutual engagement in an asymmetrical yet comfortable manner, which is formed by the OECD's structural characteristics and their respective approaches rooted in their own strategic objectives and different stakes. China selectively subscribes to the OECD's standards and projects which China finds useful to promote the "New Normal" agenda, while the OECD is ready to provide this non-Member with a comprehensive set of services. By leveraging China's growing interest in domestic reforms and multilateral issues, however, the OECD should hold China more substantively committed to international standards so that global governance, of which China is an integral part, functions more effectively.
