The university has strong relationship with philosophy from the perspective of “Theory of science" ("Die Lehre von der Wissenschaft"). In this paper I investigate the history of Faculty of Philosophy considering the situation and reform which the Japanese universities are faced with. At that time, I take much notice of the history of (early) modern German university. Considering the expertise of I. Kant concerning the organization about university, we can understand the relationship between universities and political power at the time of Germany. In addition, we can see the influence of the ideal of the establishment of the Berlin University (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin) on the Japanese universities and educations on philosophy or liberal arts.
