Abstract

Tatar, like many Turkic languages, has subject person markers that agree with the person and number of the subject. Previous research have shown that its use in non-verbal sentences in modern Tatar is rare and is used primarily when emphasis is needed, with emotional and modal nuances. In this paper, based on the corpus investigation, we show that the frequency of appearance of the personal markers is high especially in positive sentences with some emotional adjectives and locative predicates, infinitive + modal predicates, and modal particle. Therefore, it can be said that non-verbal predicates in Tatar tend to take the personal markers in expressions representing modalities such as emotion, emphasis, assertion and judgment, and it is argued that the descriptions of previous studies are supported by quantitative research.
