Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to clarify the way of daily and diverse participation in youth center from the perspective of legitimate peripheral participation(LPP) theory. The author is aware that previous studies were based on the ladder theory of chirldren’s participation, creating a hierarchy and exclusionary process in youth participation. Therefore, I focused on the lobby space in Sapporo city’s youth center and conducted participant observation and interview survey. From the results of the survey, the meeting was positioned as the pinnacle of conflicts in daily practice. There were changes in consciousness and behavior through participation in various forms. In addition, it was confirmed that there was a gap in the membership between the youth who are users and youth workers. "Meetings", which are extraordinary to the usual way of lobby space, are not their participation in democratic decision-making fields, but rather their behavior and their meaning as a process of daily practice. It was an opportunity to come up with something. It was suggested that there is a shared awareness of how one interacts as a "public place" and "everyone's place", including not using the place much. From the above, the possibility of expanding the concept of “community of practice” for structure of youth work is suggested.
