Abstract

A box model implemented with k-Kohler theory and classical ice nucleation theory were developed to treat the droplet and ice crystal nucleation on dust particles which are considered to effectively act as ice nuclei. To validate the box model, MRI cloud simulation chamber experiments using the Arizona Test Dust particles were compared with the simulation results of the box model. In the comparison, not only concentrations but also size distributions of droplets and ice crystals which are important to assess the aerosol indirect effect were performed. The outline of the developed box model and comparison results are described in this paper.
