Through a case study of dark tourism in a coal mining heritage site, this paper clarifies one aspect of the memory inheritance process: what kind of negative memories are accepted and shared by individuals. Specifically, the collective memory theory was used in a partially extended form to deepen the discussion based on the feedback received during the exchange of opinions at the end of each tour and the interviews conducted later with the organizers and several participants. As a result, it became clear that episodes connected to each participant's personal memories were selected from the complex negative memories of the coal mine. The episodes were then incorporated into the collective memory by connecting them to the larger problem awareness concerning coal mines.
