Abstract

One of my research subjects is to cross-nationally compare the labor markets at the forefront of development in Asia. This paper examines the structure of the domestic labor market in Singapore and the development of the peripheral labor market of the Growth Triangle initiated by Singapore. The formations of the diversified labor markets in this region have shown unique evolutions with interactive regulation between the peculiar socio-institutional factors and the market principles that pervade with an impact mainly from foreign direct invest- ments. In addition to the stratification of the domestic labor markets of Singapore, the multi-layered market becomes prominent internationally causing widening of the labor gap.
