太陽系のはるか彼方を回るカイパーベルト天体の氷は，何故かみな結晶質である．その環境下では紫外線・高エネルギー粒子の照射により，氷は短時間で非晶質化するはずである．結晶質であり続けるためには，絶えず表面が新しくなる必要があり，氷火山の可能性も指摘されている．果たして本当に 火性活動が必要なのか，氷の実験データから検証を試みる．
Many tran-Neptunian objects (TNOs) are covered with crystalline water-ice. However, they must quickly be changed to the amorphous phase by the high-energy particles and ultra-violet irradiation. Thus the existence of the crystalline water-ice means that the surface of the TNO is fresh and has been refreshed by some reason, which may include cryo-volcanisms. I will review the surface renewal process by using laboratory date of ice irradiation by ultra-violet photons and the high-energy particles.
