緑色植物における光化学系Iの集光装置はLHCI，光化学系IIの集光装置はLHCIIと呼ばれる膜内在性のクロロフィル／カロテノイド結合タンパク質群である．これらはチラコイド膜上ではそれぞれの反応中心を取り巻くように存在し，太陽光を集め反応中心へ供給している．また，過剰な光を与えた際にその過剰なエネルギーを安全に熱として消去できる機構も兼ね備えている．LHCI，LHCIIそれぞれを精製する手法について述べる．
In green plants, light-harvesting complexes I (LHCI) and II (LHCII) proteins serve as light-harvesting apparatus for photosystem I and II, respectively. These are chlorophyll-carotenoid binding integral membrane proteins in the thylakoid membranes. We describe a protocol for isolation of LHCI and that for LHCII proteins by detergent-solubilization of the membranes followed by sucrose density gradient ultra centrifugation.
