明治時代（清朝末期）の日本語教師・長谷川雄太郎（1865～1904）執筆の『日語入門』初版が従来の2冊に加えて新たに東京外国語大学附属図書館で確認された。これらの3冊は同一日に印刷されていたが、字形や文に相違や脱落がある。そこで、小論では、これらの初版の成立過程を書誌学的に考察した。その結果、かかる相違の大きな原因は複数の印刷職人の関与と、活字の違いによるものと判断された。最後に、初版とそれ以後の版で印刷日・印刷会社が異なることを指摘し、これらの問題に関するさらなる解明の必要を説いた。
Two years ago, a further copy of the first edition of “NICHIGO-NYÛMON (Introduction to Japanese)”by HASEGAWA Yûtarô (1865~1904),a Japanese language instructor in the Meiji Period(Late Qing Dynasty),was found in Tokyo University of Foreign Studies Library, adding to the two copies previously known. Although the three copies were printed on the same day, they show differences in letter-shapes as well as missing sentences. The author conducted a bibliographical examination of the printing process of the three copies in the light of printing technologies in the Meiji Period. The results of the study show that the differences in the copies arose from the setting-up procedures of the various printers in charge and from the use of different type-faces. The author also points out differences in the printing dates and printing companies between the first and later editions and stresses the need for further research on these issues.
