Abstract: Three subclasses of chicken IgG were found, each of them contained in chicken serum and ascitic fluid. IgG1 was the main subclass of serum IgG, but only a very small quantity of IgG1 was present in ascitic fluid. The sedimentation coefficient of both IgG2 and IgG3 was approximately 6S, being smaller than that of IgG1,7S. An immunoglobulin considered to be the chicken homologue of mammalian IgA was shown to be contained in serum and ascitic fluid, which had a sedimentation coefficient of 6.5S.
