The specimens of mulberry trees which were cultivated at the Fukui Norin School in the Taisho era, are kept in the herbarium of the Hokkaido University Museum (SAPS). We examined these specimens, to clarify the collector information and social background of that age, and researched the related literature. They were mulberry varieties “KANEKO” and “ROSOU”. They were most popular cultivars in Fukui prefecture in that age when the sericultural industry was thriving in all over the Japan. We presumed that Mr. Arata IDETA, a principal of the Fukui Norin School sent these specimens to Sapporo. Mr. IDETA is a specialist of plant pathology and was a pupil of Dr. Kingo MIYABE in his student age of the Sapporo Agricultural College. A few graduation from the college, he had been communicating closely with MIYABE and his colleagues. These specimens are regarded as the important historical material recording the developmental process of sericultural industry in Fukui prefecture. They also represent a good interchange between Agricultural Schools and Agricultural College in the Taisho era.
