Abstract: The performance of an SBA-15 supported Cu catalyst for hydrogenation of dimethyl oxalate to ethylene glycol is markedly promoted with Au. A key genesis of the high activity of the catalyst is ascribed to the formation of Cu-Au alloy nanoparticles which stabilize the active species and retard their agglomeration during the hydrogenation process.
