Abstract: This paper is the eighth report based on the world-famous Kaixiangong village, located in Jiangsu Province of China, which was first introduced by Chinese social anthropologist Fei Xiaotong. Through the tortuous process of the People's Commune, Kaixiangong village split into two parts; however, with the development of township-village silk enterprises, those two parts of Kaixiangong village were integrated after the dismantling of the People's Commune. During this period, rural leadership changed from the old leaders of the People's Commune to new leaders of township-village enterprises, who played an important role in the village after the privatization of enterprises. Under such circumstances, the attention of the villagers committee was drawn more to improving people's livelihoods and this function was strengthened.
