| Abstract: | In this paper, the economics of compost use in the Tokachi region was compared with that of chemical fertilizer. Furthermore, an analysis of the actual circumstances on farms regarding the proper application of fertilizer was conducted, taking into consideration the use of compost. As a result, it was understood that the introduction of nitrogenous compost showed results much higher than the standard. In Shikaoi,especially, it was concluded that decreased amounts of fertilizer was important. There is a marked difference between Shikaoi-cho and Obihiro City regarding the evaluation of the effectiveness of compost. In Obihiro City, the cost of using compost is higher than that of commercial fertilizer. It is therefore necessary to improve fertility while decreasing the cost of compost. |
