Abstract: A generalization of the standard spin-boson model is considered. The Hamiltonian H (a) of the model with a coupling parameter a E R acts in the tensor product 1-l ® :Fb of a Hilbert space 1-l and the boson (symmetric) Fack space :Fb over L2 (R11). The existence and uniqueness of ground states of H(a) are investigated. The degeneracy of the ground states is also discussed. The results obtained are nonperturbative. The methods used are those of constructive quantum field theory and the min-max principle. Also an exact asymptotic formula for the ground state energy of H(a) as lal → ∞ is established.
