| Abstract: | Despite recent development of treatments, stroke still remains one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide. Stem cell therapies have recently attracted much attention owing to their potential therapeutic efficacy in patients with stroke. Various types of cells, including neural stem cells (NSC), embryonic stem cells (ES), and mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) have been shown to improve the neurological outcomes in animal models of stroke, and clinical trials of these cells have been conducted in patients with stroke. In this article, the authors describe the recent advances and future perspectives of cell therapy against stroke. |
