Abstract:	中川地方演習林では、1972年からレーキドーザなどによる天然更新補助作業（掻起し）を実施し、積極的に更新面の拡大をはかってきた。作業対象地は重機の稼働が比較的容易な幹線作業道に沿った未立木ササ地である。この一方で、急傾斜地や小面積のササ地の処理問題が人力地拵えをのぞいて技術的に未確立のまま残されており、あらたな対応がもとめられている。1990年10月、これらの立地に対してバックホウを用いた地表処理を試みた。作業の方法および功程を中心に結果をとりまとめたので報告する。
