| Abstract: | This study aims to provide policy recommendations to implement group-relocation projects for the mitigation of damage from potential tsunamis. Generally, the time period from the occurrence of crustal deformation to the arrival of a tsunami is considerably short, especially in case of the great earthquakes that occur along the Nankai Trough. Therefore, it is essential to conduct relocation in areas from which it is difficult to evacuate the residents; however, such relocation has not yet been conducted.
To realize this, it is necessary to improve the system of the group-relocation projects for the mitigation of damage due to potential tsunamis and its operation, increase the ingenuity of the local government, and lay the foundation for changing the residents' behavior. |
