Abstract: The China.s 2008 Milk Scandal, has a great impact on the development of China.s dairy industry. After that, China.s dairy processors, especially large dairy processors begin to pay more attention to the safety and quality of raw milk, and constantly strengthen the upstream integration in the production and distribution of raw milk. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to clarify the influences of the upstream integration from large dairy processors. As the birth site of Yili and Mengniu, the two largest dairy processors in China, the Inner Mongolia region which also holding a lot of small-scale dairy farmers, is selected as the case study area. By field research, it is found that under the upstream integration of lager dairy processors, dairy management can be divided into three types:direct type, contract type and departure type. By further analysis, it shows that enterprise-type large-scale dairy management is on the rise, and the raw milk collecting channel of large dairy processors has also changed form a single contract-type channel to both contract-type and direct-type channel. In addition, the departure-type means being eliminated and it had to turn to sell raw milk to other medium-sized dairy processors or raw milk collectors. The final conclusion of this study makes clear that: the upstream integration of large dairy processors is not only affect the individual dairy management, but also affect the production and distribution of raw milk as a whole. And more attention should be paid to the dairy management of departure-type in the future.
