| Description: | In this article, the author treats the significance of the confederations (konfederacje) in the Polish constitution from the end of middle age up to the 18th century. In the first half of the article, he discusses the role of the confederations at the birth of the representation of estates, as well as the relations between the confederations and ius resistendi, and so forth. In the second half of the article, discussing the confederations of the modern age, the present writer argues that they had the function of acting as a substitute for the sejms, which had lost the ability of forming the will of the nation. |
