Abstract: New reduction processes from titanium oxide have been developed in United Kingdom and in Kyoto. The merits of oxide smelting and the operating principles are reviewed. Both processes use the molten salt electrolysis with carbon electrode to promote the reaction. FFC process bases on oxygen ion transfer in the molten CaCl2 bath, while OS process mark III uses the calciothermic reduction in the same bath.
