Abstract: 黄鉄鉱を含む堆積岩と酸化雰囲気の水とが接触することにより, 酸性水を発生する可能性, すなわち酸性化ポテンシャルを定量化するために, 全国各地から代表的な第三紀系の堆積岩を採取し, その粉砕試料を用いたバッチ溶出試験を行った.その結果, 溶出水pHは固相試料中の黄鉄鉱含有量だけでなく, 黄鉄鉱の酸化により発生する硫酸を中和する能力を有する方解石含有量にも依存することがわかった.さらに, 化学量論的考察から, 固相中の炭酸態炭素含有量と硫化物態イオウ含有量とのモル比が約0.5〜1以上の場合, 方解石の溶解・沈殿反応によって決定される弱アルカリ性のpHを呈し, そのモル比が約0.5以下の場合, モル比に応じて溶出水は酸性から弱アルカリ性までの広範なpHをとり, 方解石と黄鉄鉱との溶解速度の差から溶出期間の増加とともにpHが低下する傾向が認められた.
Batch leaching experiments were carried out to quantify the potential occurrence of acid leachate from sedimentary rocks, resulting from the oxidation of pyrite contained in rocks. Thirty sedimentary-rock samples were collected from several areas of Japan, and crushed rock samples were used for the experiments. The results showed that both pyrite content and calcite content in the rock played an important role in determining the pH of the leachate. Stoichiometrically, the pH of the leachate was proved to be weakly alkaline when the ratio of molar concentration between carbonate carbon and sulfide sulfur in the rock sample was greater than approximately 0.5 to 1. When the molar concentration ratio was smaller than 0.5, the pH of the leachate decreased with the depletion of the ratio. The decrease in the pH of the leachate with the leaching period was also observed due to a difference in the dissolution rate between calcite and pyrite.
