Abstract: Through the real-model simulations, the polarizationdependent confinement losses in actual holey fibers are, for the first time, numerically demonstrated. Furthermore, it is confirmed that the interstitial holes caused by the packing of the capillaries play a role to significantly reduce the confinement losses.
