Abstract: The Fuggerzeitungen is a collection of handwritten news, business letters, official reports and also personal reports from the 16th Century. The main businesses of the Fugger family were banking for the aristocracy, monarchs and emperor and metal mines in Tirol, Hungary and Spain. They always needed information, not only mainly for their business but also for their status as social leaders in their home city, Augsburg, south Germany. The collection of news is extremely voluminous (over 19,500 leaves), so no researcher has read it completely and there have been occasional misunderstandings or even fantasies in past research. In the last decade historians have begun to examine them more rigorously to clarify not only their contents, even if partially, but also provide a historical evaluation of the collection and its compiler. The Fugger family were excellent communicators in the modern sociological sense.
