| Abstract: | We have collected consumer food prices data, based on Nepal Living Standards Surveys (NLSS) I, II and III. The units of measurement of food consumption quantities in NLSSs are not unified. Specifically, several units of measurements are included, namely: kg, gram, maund, litter, muri, pathi, manna, kruwa, piece, dozen and quintal. We have calculated food prices for each unit based on food consumption quantities and food expenditures (NRs) in answers provided by households. First, we have checked the distribution of prices. Second, we have calculated prices per unit and selected the median values. Third, we have eliminated the outliers of prices and kept consistency among the units of measurement. We did not use price data directly if the sample size was small, or if unreliable price data was provided. In “Section 5. Food expenses and home production” we used data from NLSS I, II and III. |
